The Face Mask: My FAV Accessory This Year

I’m not gonna lie, wearing a face mask this winter has become my go-to fashion accessory. I know we’re 11 months into this pandemic but yes, you *still* need to wear a face mask. This time, almost a year ago, our world began to turn upside down. No more parties, shaking hands, Costco samples or even testing makeup at Sephora (life pre-covid was pretty gross if you think about it). About 40% of people who have COVID-19 are actually asymptomatic, so wearing a face covering is absolutely essential when it comes to protecting yourself as well as others. It is crazy to think that almost one out of every two people could potentially be infected. Both scientists and doctors agree that masks and face coverings can help reduce the spread by about 70%.

In order to regain our freedoms and get back to how life once was, it is essential we all do our part. And why not look good while doing it?! I always coordinate my masks to my outfits. It makes it a little more fun! A friend actually told me about a great hack for masks – when you have a full face of makeup on, spray the inside of your mask with setting spray and it prevents your makeup from transferring! I get it, these masks are a pain but they are absolutely essential so any little tips and tricks help! And remember, masks do not have to be worn all the time, just whenever you are in indoor public spaces or crowded outdoor spaces where you may be in close contact with people outside of your household. As cities around the U.S. begin to reopen for business, it’s clear we’re going to be wearing face masks for a while, which is all the more reason to find one that you like. When wearing a mask, it is essential that it properly covers your face and nose. We need to be able to move forward and it is important that we do so with safety measures in place! Just as a reminder, face masks should not be placed on young children under the age of 2, anyone who has trouble breathing, incapaciated or otherwise unable to remove their mask without assistance. Of course washing your hands with soap and water is essential and if soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer. Remember to avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth unless your hands are clean.  Given the amount of real estate that will be covered on your face, masks are the newest safe, yet fashionable accessory.  So head out and get your aesthetically pleasing mask today! And remember – wash your hands and stay home if you feel sick!
